Keeping your body hydrated is essential during any outdoor activity, whether you are working out, hunting, camping, or harvesting herbs in the wild. The loss of bodily fluid can affect physical performance and even lead to serious health problems. This is why it is important to have some water with you. A canteen is a convenient way to do that. However, choosing the most suitable model for you may turn out to be tricky because of a large number of product options currently available on the market. The first thing to take into account is the type of activity you are going to undertake. For example, a runner will be better off with a lightweight model, while a survival camper needs a canteen that can be used to boil water.
Canteens can be insulated or non-insulated. They can be made from a variety of materials. The most traditional type of canteen is made from goatskin. However, many manufacturers use aluminum, plastic, and vinyl for their products. Most metal or aluminum units are wrapped with felt: when the cloth is wet, it keeps the water cool through evaporation that removes heat from the bottle. Plastic and vinyl models are lighter but less resistant to blows and scratches.
